Eid is here! :)

Ramadan went off so fast. It just feels like we had only one week of fasting days.
Eid is a Muslim festival. It is of 2 types - Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha.
Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated to mark the end of month long fasting in Ramadan. When the moon is sighted on the 29th or 30th of Ramadan, the month is considered complete. And the 1st 3 days of next month, i.e, Shawwal is celebrated as Eid-ul-Fitr.

On this day, it is said that no one should be left without having a new dress to wear and food to eat. That is why before Eid Muslims give Sadaqa-al-fitr (donations) to the poor and needy. The donation could be money or actual food - rice, barley, etc... to ensure nobody goes hungry on Eid.
On the first day of Eid, Muslims gather early in the morning in masjids to perform Eid prayer. It is sunnah to have some sweet before the prayer. After this the people return home to celebrate Eid with their family, go to visit relatives, give gifts to each other (especially children), etc.. These celebrations continue on to the 2nd and 3rd day of Eid.

Here in Middle East we get the first 2 or all 3 days as official holidays. My Eid starts even before the actual day. Our cousins and relatives would come to stay over. After the prayers we would all gather and talk and play till late at night. The ladies would be busy decorating and filling our hands and legs with henna. On the day of Eid, we would all get up early, bath, put on new dresses and perfume. The men would all go for Fajr prayer and we ladies do all our prayers in the house itself. After that they would all come back and we would all have breakfast and sweets together. The men would again go back to masjid to pray the Eid prayer (after sunrise).

After coming back, we would be calling our friends and relatives abroad to wish them. Then we would get busy cooking. Traditionally we make Biriyani for lunch on Eid. Nothing can replace my mom's biriyani, I love it :)) After lunch we just lie around lazy watching movie or something till we dozz off ;) In the evening we would go for outing to the park, malls or friend's or relative's house, eat out and have a good time.

The next 2 days are not really planned, we just end up doing whatever comes to our mind. ;) So, that's how my Eid has been until now. I hope you'd all have a good time too. May the Almighty bless us all and give us long healthy life to celebrate and help others celebrate more Eid days happily.

Once again, Eid Mubarak to all of you!

Salam :)
